Magnitude 7 earthquake triggers small tsunami in Japan

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off Kyushu on the south-western coast of Japan at 5.51 a.m. (local time) on Saturday near the Sendai atomic plant. The quake had a depth of about 10 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, but the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning after a small tsunami was registered on the southern Nakanoshima island, the warning was called off.

The quake brought back memories of the 2011 magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami that had killed more than 18,000 people.
