Govt reduces special consumption tax on wine

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and president of ANEL Panos Kammenos met with Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos in order to find a solution for the provision on the special consumption tax on wine and deal with the strong reactions of their MPs.

The meeting was held after the resignation of MP Gabriel Sakellaridis who refused to vote the draft omnibus bill and caused intense among the members of the government.

According to information, they stressed the need to immediately proceed to amendements on wine tax so as to overcome the objections of SYRIZA’s and ANEL’s MPs.

Shortly after their meeting deputy Finance Minister Trifon Alexiadis announced in the Parliament that the tax on wine is reduced from 0.30 euros per liter to 0.15 cents per liter.
