Turkey, China form high-level cooperation council to boost economic, political ties

Turkey and China have established a cooperation council to develop relations in the fields of politics, economy, trade, security, and tourism, with the Turkish co-chair expected to appear at a G-20 meeting in Shanghai on Feb. 26.    

Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet ?im?ek is scheduled to attend the G-20 Finance Ministers and central bank governors meeting in Shanghai from Feb. 26-27.      

The meeting is the group's first under China's G-20 presidency.      

An unnamed government source told Anadolu Agency on Feb. 25 that topics on the agenda include the global economy, a framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth, investment and infrastructure, international financial architecture, financial regulations, international taxes, the financing of and the fight against terrorism, and green finance and climate change.      

During the trip, ?im?ek will also attend a high-level seminar on structural reforms to be organized by China, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).      

?im?ek is also set to meet his Chinese counterpart, Vice Premier Wang Yang in Beijing on Feb. 28, with bilateral relations, developments in China's economy and its global ramifications expected to be on the agenda.      

As the former G-20 president, Turkey joins this year's meeting as a member of the G-20 Troika --the three-member steering committee of the G-20.
