ATHEX: Moderate rise as review deal appears closer

The slightly increased chances of an agreement between Athens and Greece's lenders, thanks to Eurostat figures and politicians' statements, was reflected in Tuesday's session at the local bourse, with moderate gains for the majority of stocks.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 578.85 points, adding 0.78 percent to Monday's 574.37 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 0.28 percent to end at 159.71 points, although mid-caps gave up 0.65 percent.

Bank stocks took a different path to the majority of blue chips for the second session in a row, with their sectoral index sliding 0.54 percent yesterday. Eurobank fell 2 percent and Alpha conceded 1.04 percent. Ellaktor outperformed, increasing 9.73 percent, followed by Mytilineos (up 5.57 percent), Motor Oil (4.15 percent) and METKA (3.52 percent).
