Bulgarians Stuck on Greek Islands to be Transported to Mainland on Sunday

The foreign ministry informed that the majority of Bulgarian tourists, who have been stuck on Greek islands due to the three-day general strike in the country, will be transported to the mainland on Sunday.

According to information of the Bulgarian embassy in Athens, some local ferry companies are not participating in the strike, so many Bulgarians will be able to come home before the start of the working week on Monday.

The regular ferry line to Thasos is working and as of Sunday all ferry lines Kavala-Thasos-Kavala are operating according to schedule as the ferry workers servicing the line are not participating in the strike.

Ten buses with Bulgarians have been stuck on Corfu, with people able to depart the island but without their cars. The number of emergency flights transporting tourists to Athens and Thessaloniki has been increased.

Tourists will be also transported by ship from the port of Kavos on Corfu to Igoumenitsa.

Officially, the strike of ferry comapnies is to continue until 6 o'clock (EET) on Tuesday morning.

Ad hoc emergency teams at the Bulgarian embassy in Athens and the consulate in Thessaloniki are in constant contact with Bulgarian citizens and Greek authorities.

Hundreds of Bulgarians, who had been stuck on Santorini, were transported with a ferry boat on Saturday.

Since its start on Friday, the general strike has halted public transport in Athens and Thessaloniki.
