Mitsotakis blasts government over economy and domestic institutions

The President of major opposition party New Democracy (ND), Kyriakos Mitsotakis, unleashed a harsh attack against the current government on all fronts during his speech at the official inauguration of his party’s new headquarters in Moschato. The leader of the opposition party blasted the coalition government of SYRIZA-ANEL over its performance on the economy, while he also touched on matters concerning the functioning of the country’s institutions under the SYRIZA administration, focusing particularly on the Justice system. “On the one hand they (government) have closely embraced the new economic interests they themselves created, while on the other hand they are in close ties with “Rubicon’ (extreme left anarchist group) and are unabashedly dismantling the basic principles of our political system and undermining the country’s future”, Mitsotakis stressed. ND’s leader said that every day that went by made it more difficult to exit the economic crisis, adding that the real economy was disintegrating and social cohesion was being tested. “The longer SYRIZA remains in power, the more Greece will decline and become weaker”, Mitsotakis claimed. “Even their newspaper ‘Avgi’ came out with a poll showing that 90% of the people were disgruntled with the government”, he added. He said that the taxpaying ability of Greeks was disappearing as they were called upon to pay 21 billion Euros in taxes, while they were facing the prospect of losing their properties. During his speech Mitsotakis made it clear that he would not tolerate any form of revenge or arrogance by his MPs once he assumed power. The event, which coincided with the anniversary of the ND’s founding by Konstantinos Karamalnis in 1974, was attended by all three former leaders, Kostas Karamanlis, Evangelos Meimarakis and Antonis Samaras.
