The world's biggest passenger aircraft is set to land at Sofia Airport on Sunday.

A Bulgarian pilot will be manning the plane which fits in 500 people and weighs 560 tons, its wing span being covering the width of a football pitch. Its tail is positioned on the level of the ceiling of an eight-storey building.

The plane will arrive from Frankfurt around 13:00, the Bulgarian National Radio reports.

The radio's website quotes Lufthansa pilot Mario Bakalov as saying a flight to his home country on board the huge Airbus A360 has always been a dream for him.

Sunday's arrival will coincide with the day of civil aviation and air force in Bulgaria, which falls on October 16.

Vrazhdebna air base will be open to visitors and will show a range of military aircraft as part of celebrations.
