Stampede occurs during opening of discount store in Turkey's Tekirdağ

A stampede occurred during the opening of a store selling discount household goods on Oct. 18 in the northwestern Turkish province of Tekirdağ, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Locals had flooded to the store hoping to take advantage of opening day sales but the sheer number of shoppers ended up causing a stampede in the Hayrabolu district of Tekirdağ.

Ahead of the opening, eager shoppers formed a long queue in front of the store, which had announced the motto "From the factory to the people." 

However, after the ribbon cutting the queue broke down and a stampede into the store occurred.

Despite the melee, captured by security cameras, there were no reports of injuries.
