Patriarch Irenaeus, Archbishop Welby meet

LONDON - Patriarch Irenaeus of the Serbian Orthodox Church has concluded a several-day visit to London that marked the 100th anniversary of the first Orthodox religious service at St Paul's Cathedral.

The patriarch held a meeting with Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, urging closer ties among Christian churches.

Irenaeus and Welby expressed a wish for a renewal of traditionally good relations between the Serbian and the Anglican churches, said a statement released by the Lambeth Palace.

Christian churches must find a way of tackling all issues that separate them in a world oversaturated by confusion and unrest, as well as ways of getting closer to people, Irenaeus said.

We need to continue to build from within what brings all of us closer and there is much that we, the Catholics and the Protestants share, he said.
