German FM: EU in "Violent Turmoil" That "Might End Up With Union's Collapse"

BELGRADE - The German Federal Foreign Office is set to open up a public debate on the future of the EU in a bid to secure the union's future; financial crisis, refugee influx and the shock from the Brexit referendum has sent the block into "violent turmoil" which might end up with its collapse, according to German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

"The financial crisis, the refugee influx into Europe and the shock from the Brexit referendum in Great Britain have brought the European Union into violent turmoil," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in an interview with German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The country's top diplomat further warned that it might lead to the collapse of the union.
