Makedonia Airport expansion could harm tourism businesses

Destinations in northern Greece are facing the threat of losing out on thousands of visitors and millions of euros next year, according to the president of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), Andreas Andreadis.

He argued that if a decision regarding works on the extension of the runway at Makedonia Airport is implemented, with the plan providing for completion in midsummer 2017, Thessaloniki's airport will miss out on about 30 percent of its incoming flights next year.

Andreadis asked state authorities to postpone the start of works until November 2017 to minimize the impact on tourism in the region of Central Macedonia.
