Lessons not learned

The Greek media landscape has entered a period of tumultuous changes and realignments that will have an impact for years to come.

However, the government does not seem to have learned from the mistakes of others where the results were nothing short of tragic, even though this is such an important area.

In order to shake up the media and absolve it of the sins of the past, the country needs firm rules, complete transparency and equality, not deals with players who are expecting the state to grant them benefits and favors in exchange for their support.

Nor, of course, does such an endeavor depend on writing off the debts of companies that have gone bankrupt or treating them in a privileged way at the expense of those that continue - despite the difficult times - to make good on their commitments and to operate properly.
