ATHEX: Bourse index succumbs to pressure

It was down, then up and then back down again for the benchmark of the Greek bourse on Tuesday, as the inconclusive Eurogroup on Monday night and the terrorist attack in Manchester took their toll on the Greek market.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 783.03 points, shedding 0.70 percent from Monday's 788.53 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.40 percent to 2,086.28 points.

Banks suffered a 1.86 percent fall as Piraeus dropped 4.13 percent, Alpha shrank 1.38 percent, National surrendered 1.20 percent and Eurobank gave up 0.88 percent.

Attica Bank ended its rising streak of 11 sessions to post a 12.40 percent correction, taking the mid-cap index 2.53 percent lower.

OTE rose 2.72 percent and GEK Terna strengthened 2.45 percent, while Ellaktor fell 3.33 percent.
