Tourism project on Skiathos gets go-ahead

The government has given the green light for the creation of a holiday village next to the famous Koukounaries beach on the northern Aegean island of Skiathos.

A joint decision by five ministries approved the town-planning study and the environmental terms of the investment plan that concerns the renovation of the listed Xenia hotel there and the construction of tourism accommodation and other facilities.

Notably, part of the investment will concern a protected area.

The area spans 65,900 square meters and was sold in December 2013 by state privatization fund TAIPED to the Nathanailidis construction company for 2.6 million euros.
