Neighborhood police scheme to be boosted in three parts of Greece

The Greek Police (ELAS) is to extend the so-called neighborhood policeman scheme to cover another 13 districts in Athens, Kilkis in northern Greece, and Achaia in the Peloponnese, it emerged on Friday.

The scheme is to be extended to cover the neighborhoods of Vyronas, Aghioi Anargyroi, Peristeri and Moschato in the capital, as well as several districts in Kilkis and Achaia. Neighborhood police will now be active at 45 precincts across the country.

Neighborhood police officers have conducted more than 332,000 actions ranging from visits to homes and schools to resolving disputes, according to ELAS, which said the scheme aims to "boost citizens' sense of security and protection."
