Moscow does not want Belgrade to choose between Russia and EU

The choice between the EU and Russia is a sovereign right of Serbia, but Moscow does not want Belgrade to face such a choice, says Maria Zakharova.

This was the response of the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when asked to comment on Serbian PM Ana Brnabic's statement about picking the EU "if forced to choose."

"It is a sovereign right of Serbia, but we sincerely wish that no one puts either Ana, or anyone before the 'either-or' choice. It is optimal to be with both. It is helpful and safe from the point of view of one's own interests," Zakharova told the Beta agency.

She added that the modern world and various countries have gone through many similar temptations.

"And the conclusion is the same: in favor of harmonizing processes, rather than divisions," Zakharova said.
