Sarajevo Film Festival to Award Oliver Stone

Sarajevo Film Festival organisers announced on Monday that the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award this year will be presented to Academy Award-winning scriptwriter and director Oliver Stone.

"Sarajevo Film Festival is honoured to pay tribute to the preeminent filmmaker," the organisers stated on their website.

This year's festival will be held between August 11 and 18 and the organisers hope Stone will visit the capital of Bosnia for the occasion.

The award "honours an individual for exceptional contribution to the affirmation and development of film and support in development of the Sarajevo Film Festival".

Artists who have received the award in previous years include actors Gael García Bernal and Angelina Jolie and the director Bela Tarr.

Stone has written and directed over 20 full-length feature films. They include some of the most influential and iconic films of the last decades, starting with Midnight Express in 1978, Scarface 1983, Platoon in 1986 and Natural Born Killers in 1994.

His latest works include a "The Putin Interviews", a four-part conversation with the Russian President, released in mid-June of 2017.

Stone was granted unprecedented access to Russian President Vladimir Putin during more than a dozen interviews over two years, with no topic off-limits.
