Serbian FM Suggests 'Compromise' Solution for Kosovo

Dacic published an article in state-owned newspaper Vecernje novosti on Sunday, suggesting that in order to avoid future conflict over Kosovo, what belongs to Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo should be divided up, although he did not explain what this might mean in practice.

He said that an Association of Serbian Municipalities should be established in the south of Kosovo, similar to the one that should be set up in the mainly Serb north under the EU-mediated agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.

To ensure the security of Serbian Orthodox churches in Kosovo, Dacic proposed the creation of "independent monastic communities", which would have a certain degree of territorial autonomy.

Dacic further proposed that there should be "financial compensation for usurped private and state property".

"Everyone needs a lasting solution to the Serbian-Albanian conflict, and it can only be reached by an agreement between the Serbs and Albanians, in which each and every one will get and lose something," he wrote in his article. 

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on July 23 called for an "internal dialogue" in Serbia about Kosovo, in order to find a solution to the issue.
