Filming of 'Mamma Mia' Sequel to Start in Vis, Croatia

The US film production company Universal Pictures will soon start shooting the sequel to the hit 2008 American-British-Swedish film musical Mamma Mia! in Croatia, on the island of Vis.

The film, following a popular Broadway musical, featured Hollywood stars Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, among others, singing along to hits from the 1970s Swedish legendary pop band Abba.

While the 2008 film was shot in Greece, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will be filmed on the island of Vis, which will also be hosting the 700-strong film crew.

The film location was reportedly moved for financial reasons.

The UK Daily Mail reported in July that the people of Skopelos were "devastated" that the sequel was not being shot on their Greek island.

The newspaper quoted Christos Vailoudis, mayor of Skopelos, as saying: "The islanders are upset. The film was very important to us and for tourism."
