FYROM moves closer to making Albanian official language

The FYROM (Macedonian) Assembly on Wednesday passed in a majority vote a conclusion on the Law on Languages.

Tanjug said in its report that this means a decision has been made that Macedonia needs such a law.

The head of the parliamentary group of the most influential opposition VMRO-DPMNE, Ilija Dimovski, said on the eve of the vote that this party would vote against, because they believe such a law is unconstitutional and discriminatory toward the Macedonian language and other languages ​​spoken by citizens in Macedonia.

The conclusion adopted today will be put up for a vote at the Assembly Committee on European Affairs first, "since the law has a European flag" - said the report.

The committee may consider the bill for three days, after which it will go back for a second reading in a plenary session, followed by Assembly members presenting their position...
