ATHEX: Weekly stock losses reined in

After the major drop on Thursday, Greek stocks posted a notable recovery on Friday, covering more than half of the previous day's loss, and on increased turnover too.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 712.46 points, adding 1.58 percent to Thursday's 701.36 points. On a weekly basis, however, the benchmark posted a 2.95 percent decline.

The large-cap FTSE-26 index expanded 1.81 percent to close at 1,863.87 points and small-caps advanced 3.23 percent.

Banks rebounded 4.44 percent, with National jumping 6.19 percent and Eurobank improving 5.26 percent. Sarantis climbed 3.92 percent as Motor Oil fell 1.55 percent.

In total 67 stocks ascended, 32 contracted and 15 stayed put.

Turnover was the highest of the last 36 sessions, reaching 70.5 million euros, up from Thursday's 51.9 million.
