Serbian Police Who Assaulted Vucic's Brother Sentenced

The High Court in Belgrade on Friday gave six police officers six-month suspended sentences, with a two-year probation period, for the attack on Aleksandar Vucic's brother during the 2014 Belgrade Pride parade.

One Gendarme was sentenced to eight months of probation, because he was also convicted of assaulting military personnel in performing their official duties. The eighth member of the Gendarmerie was released, Beta news agency reported.

The incident happened on September 28, 2014, when several members of the police's Gendarmerie unit, deployed to secure the Pride parade - assaulted Andrej Vucic, brother of then Prime Minister.

Predrag Mali, the brother of Belgrade Mayor, Sinisa Mali, and two members of the Military Police, who were guarding Vucic's brother, were also assaulted.

Judge Snezana Aleksic said the court had accepted the testimonies of eyewitnesses, and that the verdict was based also on video footage from the scene, Beta said, adding that the court rejected the statements of the accused, that they were attacked and defended themselves.

One of the legal representatives of police officers, Vladimir Vucinic, said the defence was relatively satisfied with the conditional verdicts but would appeal part of the judgment.
