National Meteorological Administration: Code Yellow warning for heavy snowfalls in eight northern counties

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Thursday a Code Yellow warning for heavy snowfalls in eight counties in the north of the country, starting tonight until Friday afternoon.

The counties under the warning are: Satu Mare, Maramures, Bistrita-Nasaud, Mures, Harghita, Suceava, Botosani and Neamt.

According to meteorologists, from February 8, 06:00 pm until February 9, 05:00 pm, in all the mountain areas of the counties warned there will be snowfalls, as well as in the north-eastern, northern and central regions.

In the Eastern Carpathians, as well as in northern Moldavia, Maramures and eastern Transylvania, the precipitations will reach 15-20 liters per sqm and thus a new layer of snow will be formed.

Starting with the first hours of Friday (February 9), wind will intensify in most parts of Moldavia, with speeds of 45-55 km per hour, but also on the mountain ridges, where there will be temporary gusts of 65-70 km per hour.

The ANM informs that, especially on Friday, temporary wind intensifications will also be in the southern, south-eastern and central regions, with speeds of 50-55 km per hour. AGERPRES (RO - author: Daniel Badea, editor: Oana Tilica; EN - author: Bogdan Gabaroi, editor: Adina Panaitescu)
