Code yellow advisories of snow and blizzards for 20 counties to become valid Tuesday evening

Code yellow advisories of abundant snowfall and blizzards will become valid starting this evening for 20 counties of Romania, with precipitation and winds picking up speed to be expected in the remaining counties, according to the National Weather Administration (ANM).

According to the weather report, valid between 20:00 February 13 - 15:00 February 15, precipitation will extend from the southwest and cover the whole country. In the southern and eastern areas precipitation of 15 - 20 l / sq.m will accumulate locally over small areas, while the accumulation in the hills and mountains will exceed 25 - 30 l / sq.m. Rain is expected to prevail in Dobrogea and the Romanian Plain, while mixed precipitation will be likely in the West Plains, and mostly snow in the rest of the country.

In the same interval snow will accumulate consistently so in mountainous and subalpine areas, and also Moldavia in the second part of the interval. Beginning on Wednesday evening, February 14, rainfall will persist in the east-northeast only, with winds temporarily picking up speed in most regions. Wind gusts of 45-55 km/h are expected for short periods in the south, in the centre and in the east, while in the mountains they should exceed 70-80 km/h; blowing snow will be developed leading to low visibility. In addition, glaze and ice will accumulate.

On the other hand, a code yellow of bad weather advisory will be valid for the counties Buzau, Prahova, Dambovita, Arges, Brasov, Valcea, Sibiu, Hunedoara, Gorj, Mehedinti and Caras-Severin, between 22:00 February 13 and 11:00, February 14. On Tuesday night in the Banat Mountains, in the Southern Carpathians, then in the Curvature Carpathians, as well as the hilly areas of Banat, Oltenia and Muntenia, abundant snow will fall and a consistent layer of snow will accumulate.

The winds will strengthen to 50 - 55 km/h and even to more than 80km/h at over 1,500 meters altitudes, so there will be intervals of blowing snow and low visibility.

Another code yellow advisory of snow and blizzards will be valid between 11:00 February 14 and 11:00 February 15 for the counties of Suceava, Botosani, Neamt, Iasi, Bacau, Vaslui, Vrancea, Buzau, Harghita, Covasna, Brasov, Arges, Dambovita and Prahova.

In the same interval, abundant snow is expected to accumulate, generally 20 - 25 l/sq.m., in the Eastern Carpathians in the Western Carpathians, most of Moldavia and parts of the northern Muntenia. Winds will strengthen to 45 - 50 km/h at altitudes above 1,500 meters, especially in the Curvature Carpathians, with gusts above 70 km/h, generating blowing snow and low visibility.
