Cold wave to grip Romania; Bucharest City, 27 counties under code orange for freezing weather

A cold wave is expected to gradually cover the entire Romania, Saturday night through Sunday, with 27 counties from Moldavia, eastern Transylvania, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea placed under code orange for freezing weather.

According to a meteorological warning issued by the National Meteorological Administration (NAM) on Saturday, the cold wave will gradually cover the entire country between February 25 03:00 and March 1 10:00, and intensify, bringing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees Celsius below the normal values ??for this period of the year.

The maximum temperatures will be below zero in all regions, with the cold wave to persist in the morning and at night, first in the north half, then in the rest of the country, as temporary wind intensification will amplify the cold sensation. As many as 13 out of the 41 counties, namely Maramures, Salaj, Satu Mare, Bistrita Nasaud, Bihor, Cluj, Mures, Arad, Alba, Timis, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin and Sibiu will be affected by the milder yellow cold phenomena, while the rest of the country will be under code orange warning.

"Between Saturday night (February 24) and Sunday night (February 25/26), in the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, in Muntenia, Oltenia, southern Banat and Dobrogea will be some snow showers. The wind will intensify to an average of 45-50 km/h on average in most areas, going up to 55-65 km/h and in country's south-east," according to meteorologists.

According to ANM, the capital and 27 counties, in Moldavia, eastern Transylvania, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea will be stay under a code orange warning of freezing temperatures, both at night, and during the day, between February 26, 03:00 and March 1, 10:00. In these areas, the cold wave will intensify, the freezing weather will persist even during the day, when temperatures ??will be comparable to record lows.

Maximum temperatures will vary between -12 and -8 degrees Celsius, while the low will be between -22 and -12 degrees.
