EU-China Tourism Year honored with projection mapping show on façade of Bucharest National Theatre

The EU-China Tourism Year was celebrated Friday evening with two video mapping shows, with the imagery projected on the façade of the National Theater House in Bucharest; according to the organizers, the event contributed to the promotion of Bucharest as a tourist destination alongside other European locations.

The teams to harness the power of projection mapping technology in Bucharest were China's Gong Zhen, winner of the iMapp Bucharest 2017 Jury Prize and Romania's Mindscape, winner of the iMapp Bucharest 2015 Prize of the Public.

Attending the event titled "Romania-China Light Bridge" Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism Cristina Tarteata told AGERPRES that it ran under the banner of the EU - China Tourism Year.

"We have joined other European countries such as Austria, Germany, Belgium, Hungary, Ireland, Croatia, Italy, Estonia, Malta, Finland, France and Serbia; a promotion clip will be created by March 9 that will be broadcast in China to promote Europe on the Chinese market," the Tourism official said.

She mentioned that the building of the Bucharest National Theater was chosen as background for the show having in view the institution's major contribution over the years to the development of Romanian culture and given that Romania - China cultural exchanges had been particularly active in the area of theatrical art.

"Ever since September 2017 we have facilitated the grant of visas so that today any Chinese who wants to come to visit Romania can get the visa in a timeframe between one and five days at the most after application, compared to 60 days in the past," Tarteata said in another thread.

Claudia Popa, director of the Creart Bucharest Center for Creation, Art and Tradition told AGERPRES that it was an honor for the Center to partner with the Bucharest City Hall and the Ministry of Tourism for organizing a show dedicated to this international initiative by projecting two thematic video-mapping works on the façade of the Bucharest 'IL Caragiale' National Theater House, thus symbolically creating light bridges between the two cultures.

The organizers say the event will contribute to the promotion of Bucharest along with other locations in Europe, as it was included on the website https://ecty2018.org/events/170, managed by the European Commission for Tourism dedicated to initiatives relevant to the EU-China Tourism Year.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Li Keqiang, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China, declared 2018 the Year of EU-China Tourism, an initiative that strengthens the partnership between the European Union and China and offers a unique opportunity to increase the flow of visitors for both sides, improving travel experiences and facilitating cultural exchanges.

The European Commission proposed to symbolically create a bridge of light with China by illuminating various iconic landmarks buildings and sites throughout the EU on the occasion of the Chinese Lantern Festival.
