Deputy PM Birchall: Important steps were made to achieve equality of opportunity in Romania

Deputy PM for implementation of Romania's strategic partnerships Ana Birchall says important steps were made in Romania to achieve equality of opportunity.

"Of course, there is always room for improvement, but I believe that important steps were made so that we could have real and not just claimed equality of opportunity in Romania, and I mean here not only the law now in force, in which I also brought my modest contribution. (...) We have the National Agency for Equality of Opportunities, and the law stipulates, among other things, that the principle "equal pay for equal work" and many, many other things," said Birchall, when asked by the journalists what was the current status of equality of opportunity concept implementation in Romania, on the occasion of her participation, on Wednesday, in an event dedicated to the International Women Day.

Ana Birchall said that she was very proud to belong to the first cabinet in the history of Romania led by a woman.

"More than that, we have an important number of colleagues in the cabinet and we have an important number of colleagues in the Romanian Parliament, in the central administration, in the local administration," said the Deputy PM.

In her opinion, the PM's message was very clear. "Since the very first and second meeting of the government she adopted a series of normative acts precisely meant to have the equality of opportunity principle applied in all of our lives, in every field of activity we work in," underscored Birchall.

In her opinion, it is important that each woman does her job in good faith, proving seriousness and responsibility.

Birchall believes that it is essential for women to start having more trust in themselves. "I believe that for me it would be extremely important and, why not, women who tell successful stories should grow other successful stories, in their turn, too," said the Deputy PM.

In her turn, the Israeli Ambassador in Romania, Tamar Samash, sent a message to women all over the world, for March 8, telling them that they can succeed, that they must have trust in themselves and that they deserve to succeeded as much as others. She recommended women to study in order to gain success and not to let anybody telling them what to do, not to allow others to lead their lives.

Ana Birchall and Tamar Samash made these statements on the occasion of their participation in an event organized by the Business Women Forum Romania (BWFR) and the Israeli State Embassy.

During the event there took place a product fair - clothing, bags, jewelry - made by members of the BWFR. Most of the women who presented their creations are designers. AGERPRES (RO - author: Iulia Carciog, editor: Antonia Nita; EN - author: Cristina Zaharia, editor: Adina Panaitescu)
