Romania's weightlifter Toma wins three gold medals, compatriot Lepsa 3 silver in the 63kg category

Defending world champion Loredana Toma on Thursday evening won three gold medals and Irina Lepsa won three silver medals in the women's 63 kg category (snatch, clean and jerk and total) of the European Weightlifting Championships at Izvorani.

At 22, Toma dominated the entire contest, with no emotions for the European title. After winning the gold for snatch, she cleaned and jerked 121 kg, 126 kg and 131 kg. She was followed by the other Romanian in the 63-kg category, Irina Lepsa, whose three attempts - 113 kg, 118 kg, 122 kg - were all successful. Finishing third was Finland's Anni Vuohijoki, 112 kg.

The total podium was captured by the Romanian athletes: Loredana Toma for 236 kg, Irina Lepsa second for 219 kg and third Finland's Anni Vuohijoki for 203 kg.

Romania has won 17 medals since the start of the competition.

The European Senior Weightlifting Championships are held March 26-April 1 at the Polyvalent Hall of the Izvorani Olympic Complex. Previously, Romania hosted the European Senior Weightlifting Championships in 1972 in Constanta and in 2009 in Bucharest.
