TV sales worldwide grew by 7.9% in the first three months of 2018 compared to the same period last year, reaching 50.6 million units. This shows data from analyst firm IHS Markit.

Emerging markets such as Latin America show the usual growth on the eve of the World Cup, which this year will be in Russia. Increased demand is also observed in the countries of Eastern Europe.

In the quarter, Latin American TV sales increased by 40% on an annual basis, with the largest growth segment - 50-inch TV and larger models. As a result, the average price of the TVs sold in the region is the highest among emerging markets, TechNews reports.

Globally, the average selling price is the highest in Western Europe - it amounts to 712 dollars in the quarter, the region ranks second in sales of 4K TVs. The lowest - $ 446 - is the average selling price of TVs in China due to competition from local brands.

Most of the sold TVs in the world in the quarter - about 50.1 million units - have liquid crystal panels (LCD). The segment grew by 7.5% on an annual basis. At the same time, sales of OLED TVs jumped by 115.8 percent to 470,000 units.

Overall, sales of LCD TVs declined by 3.6% in 2017 as their average price did not decrease as much as expected. The upturn at the end of 2018 reflected the market in the first quarter, with particularly strong influence from the upcoming Football Championship.
