Serbian Ruling Party Nominates Doctor as Belgrade Mayor

Zoran Radojicic, the director of the University Children's Hospital Tirsova, who is not a Progressive Party member, was chosen as mayor on Monday ahead of Belgrade city manager Goran Vesic and municipal official Irena Vujovic, who were previously rumoured to be the preferred candidates.

"It is a great honour and I am grateful for the trust that has been shown in me. It is clear that I have a difficult and responsible task, but I look forward to it," Radojicic told a press conference.

Radojicic was nominated at a session of the Progressive Party's Belgrade board, which means his election is certain since the Progressives won 64 out of 110 seats in the municipal assembly.

The assembly session at which the mayor should be elected has been set for Thursday.
