Sales of food, beverages and tobacco contribute to 6.5 pct growth of retail trade, in first 4 months

Retail trade turnover, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles sales increased, in the first four months of the year, by 6.5 percent, as compared to the similar interval in 2017, following the positive results especially recorded in the trade with food products, beverages and tobacco, with non-food products, respectively, show data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS), released on Tuesday.

According to official statistics, from 1 January to 30 April, 2018, sales for food products, beverages and tobacco grew by 7.6 percent, as compared to the four months of the previous year, while sales of non-food products increased by the same percentage, whereas retail trade of automotive fuel in specialised stores recorded a 2.7 percent leap.

At the same time, the retail trade turnover (except of motor vehicles and motorcycles), as adjusted series for working days and seasonality registered a 7.6 percent rise from January to April, this year, Y-o-Y, due to sales of non-food products (+9.3 percent), food products (+8.3 percent), beverages and tobacco (+8.3 percent) and retail trade of automotive fuel in specialised stores (+3.8 percent).AGERPRES(RO - author: Daniel Badea, editor: Andreea Marinescu; EN - author: Simona Iacob, editor: Maria Voican)
