AGERPRES photo exhibition "Romania: Evolution" mounted at Romanian Film Evenings

Photo exhibition "Romania: Evolution" organised by the AGERPRES National News Agency on the centennial of the December 1, 1918 Greater Union opened on Thursday in the foyer of the Iasi Athenaeum, on the second evening of the Romanian Film Evenings.

The exhibition comprises the best pictures in the AGERPRES library of historical pictures illustrating the evolution of Romania, taken in recent years by the agency's photographers, as well as pictures from the archives of the Associated Press depicting personalities such as King Ferdinand I and Queen Marie, King Mihai I, Eugen Ionesco, Nadia Comaneci. The photos from the AGERPRES picture library reflect the cultural, artistic, political and sports life of the country, highlighting photographs of notables such as singer Maria Tanase and composer George Enescu.

According to AGERPRES General Director Alexandru Giboi, the exhibition in Iasi includes only "a small part of the photographs the agency has prepared for the Centennial."

"The name of this exhibition is very important: 'Romania: Evolution'. From my point of view, the centennial should not be just taking stock on 100 year years, because such stock can be better or worse. To me, it is very important for the Centennial to be a moment to challenge ourselves to evolve, to look into the future and to try and do increasingly more and better things for our country, for our society," said Giboi.

The exhibition was praised by Andrei Apreutesei, manager of the Iasi Athenaeum, who thanked AGERPRES for the effort to display the valuable photos from his library for the Iasi public.

"Thank you to Mr Giboi for the honour to bring this AGERPRES exhibition. All of us who are here probably know what AGERPRES represents not only in Romania, but for the whole world. It is, without a doubt, a model from many points of view," said Apreutesei.

The photo album "Romania: Evolution," in Romanian and English, was also presented at the opening that includes 100 photos in three chapters: Archives, Revolution, Evolution.

Partners of the AGERPRES exhibition are the Associated Press and the National Air Transport Company of Romania - TAROM, with support from the Romanian Film Centennial and the Romanian Cultural Institute. The event is promoted by Radio Guerrilla, with Antena 3, Europa FM, Radio Romania and TVR being media partners.

The opening was followed by the presentation of documentary "The Greater Union - Romania at 100," a film produced by AGERPRES for the Greater Union Centennial. AGERPRES (RO - author: Cristian Lupascu; EN - author: Corneliu-Aurelian Colceriu, editor: Adina Panaitescu)
