Burgas is the Best City to Live in Bulgaria

Burgas is the best city to live in Bulgaria in 2017 according to Darik Radio and its listeners. The prize was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev.

For the eleventh year in a row, Darik asked who was the best city to live in and compared all 27 regional cities to a number of criteria. This is the annual survey that aims to understand where modern people feel best and which city offers a good and perspective lifestyle.

In the category "Green city" was awarded Sliven, which, according to the Minister of Environment and Waters Neno Dimov, processes over 90% of the municipal waste and has the lowest level of fine particles.

As "Euro City" was designated Sofia. "I believe that every mayor of each municipality tries to do the best for their city, said Mayor Yordanka Fandakova. She added that this is a teamwork because no mayor and no city can handle it alone.

Business town is Dimitrovgrad with 3150 jobs opened in 2017, and Smolyan became the city of knowledge.

In the category "City of Financial Sustainability" the prize was handed over to Plovdiv by the Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov. The problem, according to Goranov, is that in most categories the awards go to southern Bulgaria. In his words, they must now turn to support Northern Bulgaria, especially in the development of infrastructure.

In the competition "My City is My Fortress" - part of a campaign of MRDPW, Minister Nikolay Nankov awarded Shumen, Kyustendil, Stara Zagora, Gabrovo and Sofia.

So far the recognition of the best city to live in Bulgaria was won by Stara Zagora, Sofia, Varna, Burgas and Veliko Tarnovo.
