Former Croatian football club boss Zdravko Mamic, who has been convicted of financial crimes, was arrested on Thursday in Medjugorje.

State Investigation and Protection Agency police detained Mamic on the basis of an Interpol warrant. He will be handed over to the Bosnian state court.

On Tuesday, a Croatian court issued an international warrant and European Arrest Warrant for Mamic, the former chief of Dinamo Zagreb.

Mamic, his brother Zoran Mamic, Damir Vrbanovic, a former Dinamo director, and tax official Milan Pernar were convicted on June 6 of siphoning about 116 million kunas (15.5 million euros) out of the football club and defrauding the state of about 12.milion kuna (1.8 euro) in unpaid taxes.

In the first-instance verdict, Zdravko Mamic was found guilty on both counts of the indictment and received six and a half years' imprisonment.

Mamic didn't appear in court for the verdict as he went to Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina the day before, although he denied he was fleeing justice.
