Macron Wants to Return the Official Status of the French Language

On Friday, June 15, it became known that the President of France Emmanuel Macron wants to make French the main language of the European Union. He believes it is logical in connection with the forthcoming British exit from the EU.

According to the newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for the first time macron has unveiled his idea of the March 20 international day of Francophonie, which marks the establishment of the international cooperation organization of French-speaking countries. Then the French President was careful. He said: "the English language probably has never been so widely represented in Brussels, as in the days when we are discussing Brexit. This dominance, however, is not inevitable."

For the past since then almost three months at the Makron had a lot of supporters in this matter. They believe that we should return to the situation prior to 1973. Then French was the main language in the office work of the European economic community. For example, the official representative of France in EU Philippe de I'eglise Costa in April refused to participate in the budget meeting because it was held in English. According to one diplomat, all remaining at the meeting of the English in principle satisfied, but after the demarche of the French all began to demand translations into their native languages.

A native of Luxembourg has previously stated that he sees no reasons why "the language of Shakespeare must be higher than the language of Voltaire".
