Vucic invites Trump to visit Serbia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has sent a congratulatory message to US President Donald Trump on the occasion of the US national holiday July 4.

In the letter, Vucic also invited Trump to visit Serbia.

Vucic said he was congratulating the holiday to Trump "with best wishes for further progress of his country and well-being of American citizens."

"This day is important for all citizens of the United States, but also for those who respect and find a role model in the lasting values of the Declaration of Independence: that all people have been created equal, with the right to life, freedom and a desire for happiness," added the Serbian president.

Vucic recalled that it has been almost a century since the Serbian flag was raised over the White House.

"Recalling me, through this bright example of the common past, of our historical alliance, I would like to once again invite you to visit Serbia in the year of the anniversary, as the first American president to do so after almost 40," Vucic said, and added:

"Your visit would be of the utmost importance for further improvement of overall cooperation of our two countries, to which Serbia is strongly committed."

Vucic also said he was grateful for the support provided by the United States to Serbia on the European path, in particular in support of Serbia's efforts to preserve peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
