National Stadium to be built in Belgrade suburb

Serbia's National Stadium will be built in the Belgrade suburb of Ostruzica, Finance Minister Sinisa Mali has confirmed.

The 60,000 capacity stadium will be designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects.

Mali said that the new stadium built to UEFA's standards will make it possible for Serbia to host major sporting events, such as European and world championships, as well as final games of top football competitions.

This would help promote the country and attract tourists, the minister said.

Several years ago, then Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the government would set aside EUR 150 million to build a new stadium.
