New Forecast: The Population of Bulgaria will be under 7 Million People Next Year

The population of Bulgaria will be under 7 million after several months, according to a forecast based on an analysis of official data from the National Statistics Institute, according to which over the last year we have decreased by nearly 50 000 people.
 
The official number of Bulgarians at the beginning of 2019 should be 6,998,000 if the sustainable trend remains. That decrease will be empirically confirmed in 2021 when a new population census is due.

The Public Consultation Portal Strategy.bg and the NSI website published the Draft Census of Housing and Housing Bill in 2021. Within 30 days, the public consultation will continue on the Consultation Portal, with interested parties giving an opinion how to make the census - online, with questionnaires and counters, through administrative sources or mixed.

Another topic on which we can give an opinion is whether the issue of ethnicity and religion should be included. Why it is important was explained by National Statistics Director Sergei Florarski.

"Whether ethnic issues are something that could threaten someone either in a personal or a group or party plan, these are things that we want to discuss with everyone and with your help, we can explain the importance and the usefulness of the information we will gather, not to mention that there are already normative acts that refer to the census as the only source for the information, for example, about the religion. "There is no other source of this information, Florianski told reporters.

There are three options for the new census period: January - February 2019, May - June 2019, November - December 2019.
