Liberal leader Orban: Dancila's mind-boggling lying in official documents shows she must quit

Chairman of the Opposition's National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban argues that by the letter addressed to the Brussels officials Premier Viorica Dancila does nothing else but "lie" and "execute antidemocratic orders", and that for this reason she must step down.

"The manner she allows herself to shamelessly lie in official documents shows once again that this puppet, the implementer of antidemocratic orders, has to leave. The impertinence of the puppet-PM Dancila of lying in official correspondence fundamentally harms the interests of Romania in the European Union," Orban said in a release on Friday.

The Liberal leader notes that "the way Premier Viorica Dancila allows herself to lie in official correspondence to Brussels about the situation in Romania is mind-boggling."

"It is all the more serious that those who pull the strings on Dancila believe they can thus misinform European officials. The Prime Minister's letter, which was not made public by the government, only confirms yet again that the political power in Bucharest has lost touch with reality and acts in bad faith, attempting to present a manifestly false version of the recent events," Orban says. The Liberal Chairman goes on to note that "the allegations in the Premier's letter betray her guilt, through the desperate attempt to accredit a recurrent claim fueled by [the ruling] PSD with the help of propaganda."

"Staging anti-government political manifestations does in no way amount to a 'coup' and the continuation of such peaceful demonstrations does not imply anything illegitimate: only a political leader with an authoritarian mentality, such as Liviu Dragnea, can think otherwise. According to Romania's constitutional regime, at this moment there are only two possibilities to remove a government, by either the resignation of the Prime Minister, or following the withdrawal of confidence by a parliamentary majority. Anti-government protests can only influence political decision makers to opt for one way or the other, and there is also the variant picked by the current government to pretend not to hear the voice of the citizens," Orban points out.

In his opinion, the right to peaceful protest is guaranteed by the Constitution and any attempt to contain it by the targeted power is "an abusive act with dictatorial tendencies".

"After the August 10 repression, any call on the peaceful protestors not let themselves intimidated or to censure their beliefs is entirely legitimate. Of course, Viorica Dancila is incapable of understanding democratic concepts, since she barely understands what she is scripted to read. The political lack of culture displayed by the Prime Minister is a serious threat to Romania's interests and the democracy the citizens of this country still enjoy," Orban notes.

Premier Viorica Dancila sent President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans a letter, the EU executive body confirmed on Friday.

We can confirm having received the letter and the answer will follow in due time, a spokesperson of the European Commission said on Friday, at the request of AGERPRES.

Romanian media reported that in her letter about the August 10 anti-government rally in Bucharest, the Premier talks about attempts to violently topple a legitimate government. AGERPRES (RO - author: Florentina Stefanescu, editor: Florin Marin; EN - author/editor: Simona Klodnischi)
