Romanian Ambassador to US Maior: My involvement in US's internal politics - completely untrue

Romania's Ambassador to US George Maior on Wednesday denied his involvement in the US's internal politics, as implied by Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu.

"The fact that I got involved in the US's internal politics is completely untrue. There is no such statement, such gesture or attitude on behalf of the United States that would suggest this. I just made an affirmation about a private person (editor's note - Rudolph Giuliani), who issued an opinion. And by telling the truth to the Romanian public opinion, I believe that I did my duty in Romania's national interest, for otherwise it would have remained this completely false perception of the American authorities' position in relation to the political dialogue and the dialogue concerning the systems of values between the two countries, which wouldn't have been in Romania's national interest. These things are not at all characteristic to the American attitude, on the contrary, the American attitude was consistent with what I did, in my opinion, in Romania's national interest," said Maior.
