Cernavoda power plant Unit 1 back to nominal power

CNE Cernavoda power plant Unit 1 is back to operating at nominal power, after the finalization of the repairs at a tank attached to the turbo generator group (the classic part of the plant), informs national company Nuclearelectrica.

"We remind that the reparation works cannot be done solely by reducing the power of Unit 1 reactor. The controlled reducing of the power and the repair works were done safely and according to the specific procedures of the plant," specified the company.

The CNE Cernavoda Unit 1 now operates with a reduced power of about 500 MW, in the context in which the reactor's nominal power is of 700 MW.

Nuclearelectrica operates the nuclear plant at Cernavoda, where there are two reactors of the CANDU 6 type in operation, with a total power of 1,400 MW. They ensure approx. 20 per cent of the national electricity production.

Reactor 1 became operational in 1996 and Unit 2 in 2007. AGERPRES (RO - editor: Andreea Marinescu; EN - editor: Cristina Zaharia)
