EU: Kosovo must reverse this act immediately

Federica Mogherini said on Wednesday that the Kosovo government must immediately abolish the decisions on imposing duties on Serbian and Bosnian goods.

According to Beta agency, the EU foreign policy chief said in a statement that the Nov. 21 that decision of the Kosovo government to raise the duty on Serbian and Bosnian goods to 100 percent made the situation worse, after Pristina imposed 10-percent duties last week.

The Kosovo government must immediately revoke those decisions, Mogherini said.

She also said that the 100-percent duties were an apparent violation of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and the spirit of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Kosovo.

EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn welcomed Mogherini's statement, and said Pristina's decision on taxing goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina was a violation of CEFTA and regional free trade principles.

This act "must be reversed immediately," Hahn wrote on Twitter, Tanjug reported.

This act - which also hurts #Kosovo consumers and businesses - must be reversed immediately. #Kosovo holds the #CEFTA chairmanship and thus has special responsibility. I'll attend #CEFTA week in Pristina soon and expect this to be solved by then. 2/2
