PM Dancila:Centennial anniversary must unite us, Romanian society's resources aplenty for this major goal

The Centennial anniversary must act as a unifier, and the Romanian society has resources aplenty to achieve this major goal, Premier Viorica Dancila said at the solemn plenary session of Parliament this Wednesday.

"I come today in Parliament to the solemn session honoring the Greater Union Centennial, in my capacity as Prime Minister, with a message of peace and unity to all Romanians. The Centennial is about the celebration of the national ideal, about remembering the deeds of our forefathers who succeeded in channeling the force and energies of this people, the values, principles and faith that united the Romanians and about paying homage to the heroic deeds of those who laid down their lives for the Romanians and for Greater Romania. As a Prime Minister, I trust the capacity of the entire Romanian society to follow the example of those who believed in the future of Romania, and I am convinced that the Centennial anniversary must unite us, because we have a sacred duty to pass on to our children this precious legacy we received from our forefathers 100 years ago, and the Romanian society has resources aplenty to achieve this major goal," the Premier told the solemn sitting.

Viorica Dancila professed her belief "in consensus, balance and cooperation".

"We all see that, unfortunately, there are situations when consensus is very difficult to reach, but I am confident that these obstacles can be overcome. There is no place for political hubris and personal interests on this road," Dancila said.

The Prime Minister added that in this solemn moment of the Centennial she seeks inspiration from the wisdom of the achievers of the Greater Union and puts aside "division and attacks, unjust criticism" or even the "offenses" that have been targeted at her in the past.

"I am calling on you all for unity. The takeover of the rotating Presidency of the EU Council has now entered a straight line and as of January 1 we will responsibly exercise the mandate we have been preparing for this entire year. Let us, Romanians, stand united in the next six months when Romania will play an extremely important role, let us show that our country fulfills this high responsibility in a dignified manner. Let us, Romanians, stand united, so that we adopt the euro by 2024, in order to carry out the projects of strategic importance to Romania. Let us no longer pull the plug on them just because they were started by others, let us carry them out for the Romanians and for Romania. Let us, Romanians, stand united in the European Parliament and before the European Commission for Romania to be admitted to the Schengen Area and be no longer criticized for things that are well allowed in other EU member states. Let us, Romanians, stand united for strengthening Romania in Europe and in the North Atlantic Alliance," Dancila said.

She added that she is convinced that 100 years on from the Greater Union there are at least 100 reasons for bringing the Romanians together.

"We have at least 100 reasons to act as a dignified and strong nation," the Premier concluded. AGERPRES (RO - author: Daniel Florea, editor Mihai Simionescu; EN - author: Simona Klodnischi, editor: Simona Iacob)
