PM Dancila: I trust that Romanian society still has sufficient resources for consensus, balance, political wisdom

Bucharest, Dec 1 /Agerpres/ - Prime Minister Viorica Dancila sent, on Saturday, a message on the National Day of Romania, occasion on which she expressed her trust that Romanian society still has 'sufficient resources for consensus, balance and political wisdom'.

"We celebrate today the National Day, in the Centennial Year, thinking of the unity of those who one hundred years ago believed in Romania's future and in the sacred duty that we have to be inspired from this accomplished ideal of our forefathers. I address on this occasion to all Romanians a message of peace and unity. I trust that Romanian society still has sufficient resources for consensus, balance and political wisdom, so that we promote our common interest as a European nation. Let us enter in this second century of existence of modern Romania repeating the example of the makers of the Great Union, in order to complete the strategic projects we proposed for Romania. Let us not cease them just because others started them! Political egos and personal interests have no place on this road," Viorica Dancila stated.

She also referred, in the message, to the fact that Romanians want to live in a prosperous country "attached to European values".

"The fact that we all want to live in a prosperous Romania, attached to European values and which maintains its national identity represents the best argument to unite our efforts in the interest of citizens and ours as a nation. The famous quote "through ourselves alone", placed by the Bratianus on the frontispice of the Great Union must find a correspondent in our day-to-day, and this makes us no less pro-European", the head of the Executive added.

The Prime Minister further expressed her trust in "consensus, balance and cooperation".

"The differences in opinion must not place us in adversarial positions. Each has the right to his own opinion. We can debate, we can negotiate, there are legislative and institutional means that work and must be respected. There are moments in which political peace is needed and I adress an appeal in this sense to the political class. As Romanians, when we speak of Romania, regardless of the official positions we hold, we must prove balance in statements and cast aside electoral and political stakes," Dancila also said.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister appealed to unity also in the perspective of our country's taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

"Let us be united in the perspective of the coming mandate of Romania at the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in which we are to have the role of impartial mediator. Let us show that our country is prepared to fulfill with dignity this high responsibility! Let us unite our efforts so that the economic development of Romania allow the adoption of the euro in 2024. Let us be united so that the admission of Romania to the Schengen space be decided only on the mandatory technical criteria. These are the main reasons that should unite us. 100 years on from the Great Union, we have at least 100 reasons to act like a dignified and powerful nation: the natural beauty of Romania, the history, the national resources, traditions, people of culture, scientists, great political figures and athletes that have made Romania's name known in the entire world. And, above all, we have the responsibility of our future and that of future generations. Through dialogue and openness, we can build a powerful Romania for hundreds of years to come. Many happy returns, Romania!, Many happy returns, Romanians!," Dancila concluded. AGERPRES (RO - author: Daniel Florea, editor: Mirela Barbulescu; EN - editor: Razvan-Adrian Pandea)
