Deputy PM Ana Birchall represents Romania at investiture ceremony of new President of Mexico

Bucharest, Dec 2 /Agerpres/ - Deputy Prime Minister Ana Birchall attended on Saturday the investiture ceremony of the new President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, during which she presented a congratulatory message from Romania for the mandate entrusted by most Mexicans.

According to a press release issued on Sunday for AGERPRES by the Government, on the sidelines of this event, Ana Birchall had a series of meetings with US Vice President Mike Pence, Ivanka Trump, Argentinian Vice-President Gabriela Michetti, and with the new Foreign Minister of the United Mexican United States, Marcelo Luis Ebrard Casaubon.

"The Romanian dignitary expressed congratulations for the appointment of Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Luis Ebrard Casaubon and wished him success in fulfilling his mandate while expressing the conviction that the Romanian-Mexican bilateral relations will develop at a sustained pace. In the meeting with Marcelo Luis Ebrard Casaubon, Ana Birchall highlighted the excellent Romanian-Mexican relations, the positive dynamics recorded at bilateral level lately, as well as the importance given by both sides to the modernization of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement," the release informed.

The Romanian deputy prime minister pointed out that the development of relations with Mexico, especially from the perspective of the dynamism of bilateral economic cooperation, is an important objective, "noted in our government program, in relaunching relations with emerging countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa."

"The meeting of the Romanian dignitary with the Vice-President of Argentina, Gabriela Michetti, occasioned the reaffirmation of Romania's interest in strengthening the bilateral relations, politically, economically and sectorally, considering the potential for cooperation between the two states. The two officials reaffirmed the commitment of joint actions for the mutual support of Romania and Argentina's candidacies to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), an objective of major importance for both states. Also, in the discussions with the other Latin American dignitaries present, the Romanian deputy prime minister promoted Romania's candidacy for a non-permanent member place on the United Nations Security Council," the Government underlines in the release.
