President Iohannis sends message on occasion of Hanukkah holiday

Bucharest, Dec 2 /Agerpres/ - President Klaus Iohannis sent a message on Sunday on the occasion of Hanukkah holiday, the text being presented by presidential adviser Sergiu Nistor at the Choral Temple in Bucharest.

"On the occasion of celebrating Hanukkah, I wish to address my warm greeting, together with sincere wishes of peace and prosperity to all members of the Jewish communities in Romania. Celebration of light and victory, Hanukkah reminds us the presence of the sacred in everyday life, giving us strength in belief and hope. We congratulate the leadership of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania for this festivity hosted at the Choral Temple, a symbol-place of continuity in the troubled history of the Jews in Romania, as well as a proof of the valuable contribution of the Jews to the common good," reads Iohannis' message, according to a release from the Presidential Administration.

Iohannis also says that the Choral Temple reminds us, with each celebration, of the spiritual values of the Jewish people, which they values and backs: dialogue, self-knowledge and solidarity, respect for alterity, the encounter between religions and cultures.

"In the year of marking the Centennial of the Greater Union, the lighting of Menorah's candles is the ritual by which we honor the memory of those who sacrificed themselves for freedom and unity and through which we share hope in the future we build together, under the sign of unity in diversity, for us and for the generations to come. Hag Hanuka Sameah!" reads Klaus Iohannis' message. AGERPRES (RO - author: Eusebi Manolache, editor: Florin Marin; EN - editor: Bogdan Gabaroi)
