In phone talk with Polish counterpart, PM Dancila reaffirms commitment to successful EU Council Presidency

Premier Viorica Dancila on Thursday had a phone talk with her Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki, reaffirming on the occasion Romania's full commitment to ensuring a successful Presidency of the EU Council, the government said in a release.

The discussion highlighted the very good bilateral relations between Romania and Poland, "which are constantly developing and producing positive effects" for the two countries, as well as for the Central and Eastern European region.

"With regard to the upcoming Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila emphasized that the Bucharest Executive is ready to take over this mandate and reaffirmed the strong commitment to ensuring a successful Presidency," reads the release.

In this context, the Romanian Premier mentioned that the current challenges facing the Union reflect an increased need for unity and cohesion, stating that the working agenda of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council will focus primarily on "promoting cohesion as a common European policy and asset."

"The two heads of government also discussed the recent Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Bucharest (September 17 - 18, 2018) which provides substantial potential for cooperation and supports projects aimed at developing the region and ensuring convergence through connectivity in transportation, energy and digital communications," the release states.

The Romanian and Polish Prime Ministers also expressed their support for the continuation of security cooperation, building on the bilateral strategic partnership, as well as for co-work in the field of energy, at European level included.
