USR's Barna: I told PM emergency ordinance to amend Criminal Codes would spark unprecedented social crisis

Save Romania Union (USR) President Dan Barna said on Friday he told Prime Minister Viorica Dancila at the meeting they had that issuing an emergency ordinance to amend the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Codes would spark in Romania an unprecedented social crisis that would completely overshadow the perspective of Romania's taking over the Presidency of the EU Council.

Dan Barna met with Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and Minister of Justice Tudorel Toader on Friday.

"It was a meaningful discussion, we spent about 80 minutes (...) and I had the opportunity to tell directly the Prime Minister of Romania (...) the point of view of the USR, according to which, at this point, issuing an ordinance on justice would create in Romania a crisis of perception and a unprecedented social crisis that would completely overshadow the prospect of taking over the Presidency because the discussion was somewhere between these two elements. The topic was obviously the one on justice, but we also emphasized this important element - Romania will take over in a few days the most prestigious position of foreign policy that our state has had since the Principalities of Alexandru Ioan Cuza and up to now. From this perspective, an emergency ordinance we think would create a message vulnerability that will be permanently under discussion during the Presidency," Barna told a press conference.

According to him, if the Government adopts an ordinance, not only does it disregard Parliament's possibility to decide, but it will also become vulnerable. AGERPRES (RO - author: Catalina Matei, editor: Florin Marin; EN - author: Bogdan Gabaroi; editor: Simona Iacob)
