Driver in latest railroad crossing accident was intoxicated

Mihajlovic, who is in charge of transport, construction, and infrastructure in the Serbian government, was responding to questions from journalist in Belgrade when she made the statement.

The 21-year-old driver, the sole occupant of the car, escaped without visible injuries, Tanjug reported, adding that he was under medical observation.

The crossing where the accident happened does not have a boom barrier, but does have vertical road signs.

The accident comes only days after five people were killed when a train collided with a bus at a crossing near the town of Nis.

There was no boom barrier installed at this crossing either. Mihajlovic said that responsibility or the deadly accident was most likely "individual" - i.e., the result of "human error."
