"We won war against Serbia," says Thaci

"With Serbia, we have a century of hostilities. We won a war at a great price," he said.

"Now it is time to win peace with Serbia, for us and future generations. It is why I hail the negotiating group of the Kosovo assembly and the launch of work toward reaching an agreement with Serbia," Thaci said at an assembly session that was boycotted by MPs of the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Self-Determination and the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo.

According to Thaci, the agreement should be a final document, comprehensive and reached in an EU-brokered peace process and with the full backing of the U.S.

"This agreement, should lead to Serbia's recognition of Kosovo and membership in the U.N., while it should bring sustainable peace and stability to the region," Thaci said.

He further said that in the past two days, he had received two letters, one from French President Emmanuel Macron, and the other from US President Donald Trump.

"President Macron's letter praised our engagement for peace and stability. But even stronger is the letter from Trump, the president of the closest state to us. President Trump designates Kosovo as the key crucial partner for peace and development of the entire European continent," Thaci said.
